First Level Professional Higher Education Programme ‘Preschool Teacher’

The first level professional study programme ‘Preschool Teacher’ is a conceptually new quality study programme for the implementation of preschool teacher education. The study programme provides education of qualified preschool teachers in accordance with the current requirements in education and the labour market. The first level higher professional educational study programme ‘Preschool Teacher’ is focused on the acquisition of professional competences necessary for a preschool teacher to work in pre-school educational institutions or other public or private organizations related to preschool education, as well as support for students' self-fulfilment and professional identity development in lifelong learning.

Graduates of the first level professional higher educational study programme can obtain a bachelor's degree in education, continuing to acquire the content of the professional bachelor's study programme ‘Primary Education Teacher’, starting from the third study year.

Graduates can obtain a bachelor's degree in education by continuing to acquire the content of the professional bachelor's study programme ‘Primary Education Teacher’, starting from the third study year.

Full-time – 4 semesters (2 years)

Part-time – 5 semesters (2,5 years)

 

Tuition fee per year: full-time – 1950 EUR; part-time regular studies – 1550 EUR (as well in branches)

For full-time studies in the autumn semester – 20 budget places

General rules

Secondary education

Competition criteria for persons with an obtained secondary education in 2004 and onwards:

  • CE in Latvian
  • CE in English or CE in French, or CE in German, or CE in Russian
  • CE in Maths*

* For persons who have completed secondary education before 2008, the centralized examination in mathematics may be replaced by the annual mark of the secondary education document in mathematics (or the average mark in algebra and geometry)

Competition criteria for persons who obtained secondary education up to 2004 (not included) as well as persons who have obtained their secondary education abroad and persons with special needs:

  • final average grade in Latvian and Literature
  • final grade in English or in French, or in German
  • final average grade in certain subjects
