European Studies and Economic Diplomacy

Study programme offers in-depth studies of international economic relations, paying special attention to the theoretical and applied problems of international economics and economic diplomacy.

Graduates’ comprehensive interdisciplinary knowledge of the European Union, diplomatic skills, analytical skills, and in-depth economic skills will provide solid basis for their work in different institutions of

 European Union, international organizations, as well as in national public and private sectors. Students gain knowledge for analytical and managerial positions in

 economic, political, and social fields, for diplomatic service, for economic lobbying activities at

 European Union level, and for further education in doctoral studies programmes leading to an academic career.

The programme provides studies in international environment of lingual and cultural diversity by attracting both international students, lecturers, and experts. Studies are conducted in English. The highlight of the program is a study trip to EU and NATO institutions in Brussels, Luxembourg and Frankfurt which helps to master the environment of international institutions in practice. Study trip is subject to an epidemiological situation in the region.

The full-time degree programme covers two academic years. Classes are in the evenings of working days.
EU, EEA, Swiss citizens and their family members;Long term EU residents - 2350 € per year. Other country citizens - 2585 € per year.
Master of Social Sciences in Economics
  1. Academic or professional bachelor’s degree in economics or management science. Academic or professional bachelor’s degree in other fields of social sciences, or natural sciences, or the humanities, and considerable work experience in the field of economics that includes appropriate preliminary knowledge.
  2. English language proficiency.
  3. Quality of CV.
  4. Quality of Motivation letter.
  5. As a part of the admission process applicants will be asked to participate in an online interview and fulfill the test.

Proficiency in English requires a test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Internet-based at least 72 points; Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Essential at least 8 points; International English Language Testing System (IELTS ) at least 5.5 points; Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE) / C2 Proficiency any level; Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) / C1 Advanced any level; Cambridge English: First (FCE) / B2 First – B; Pearson Test of English (PTE) General at least B2; LanguageCert International ESOL at least level Communicator B2 (written and oral exam).

When applying for the study program, foreigners who have obtained previous education are required to prove their English language proficiency with the above-mentioned results of international language tests, which are confirmed by documents issued during the last five years. Proficiency in English can also be confirmed by the result obtained at the University of Latvia English language test at least at B2 level. Proof of English language proficiency is not required if the previous education is acquired in English.
