The aim of the study program is to educate qualified teachers of general education for the education institutions of Latvia, to ensure the possibility for students to acquire the necessary teacher competence and receive a teacher qualification.

|Programme practical realization||
The study program is implemented using different forms of study: lectures, seminars, practical classes which involve individual, pair and group work, laboratory works, students’ independent work, e-learning, use of internet resources, workshops, field practices, seminars-consultations of the teaching practice, etc.
During the studies students have a possibility to receive materials electronically, to use them in preparation for their seminars and examinations as well as for using in their teaching at school. E-courses are successfully used in the study program. Almost all the courses of the program and the support materials are available to students in Moodle environment. Moodle environment is successfully used in implementing the courses Teaching practice I and II. Students can receive the course material also in the form of CD and DVD. Besides due to the active Internet access in all faculties of the university involved in the implementation of the study program the teaching staff have a possibility to use materials from different Internet links in their lecture presentations, seminars and discussions.
The possibilities of Internet and ICT as well as interactive methods for improving the study process are used more widely. Modern approaches and methods are used in implementing the study program, e.g., the cognitive approach, the action research approach, the creative approach, the problem solving approach, the autonomous learning, independent and guided studies; general study methods, collection of information, systematization, presentation, analysis and summarizing of scientific information). The forms of implementing the study program facilitate students’ acquisition and broadening of theoretical knowledge, develop students’ critical, analytical and creative thinking, the skills to discuss and substantiate their opinions with valid arguments, the skills to use modern teaching methods in their work as well as social and cooperation skills.
In order to apply the acquired knowledge and skills and develop the teacher’s competence students are asked to make thematic plans, to model lessons, to develop their own tasks and exercises, etc.
The program does not envisage a special course to develop general skills in critical thinking, communication, presentation, discussion etc. Instead, development of general skills, particularly critical thinking are incorporated in almost every study course.
Yearly programme costs per student correspond to the tuition fee given above.
