E-courses ValoP132: Lexico-grammatical analysis of English texts I
Course annotation The aim of the course is to give students an opportunity to develop their skills to read and analyse authentic texts in English, to work on these texts from lexical and grammatical aspects. Course objectives:
1) to help students form their skill to read authentic texts in English, in particular, to understand and analyse different kinds of texts of different complexity levels in English; 2) to give students an opportunity learn new lexis in English (words and their polysemy, synonyms, homonyms, antonyms, phraseology) thus enriching their vocabulary and ensuring that they know how to use new lexis in different real life contexts (formal and informal);
3) to encourage students to work with different dictionaries.


Results In the due course of studies students form their idea of the variety of texts in English both from lexical and grammatical aspects.
If students master the course successfully, they will be able to show:
1)Academic competences:
knowledge and understanding of the use of English in texts of different styles and contexts; skills to analyze, synthesize and evaluate the essence of different texts and to give their evaluation and conclusions for them.
2)Professional competences:
skills to read authentic texts in English; understanding of how to use their skills practically; an ability to analyse these texts from lexical and grammatical aspects; new vocabulary and understanding of how to use new words in different contexts (formal and informal); understanding of how to choose the best dictionaries for their work taking into account text type and tasks; an ability to use them effectively.

Requirements for obtaining credit points 1.Satisfactory interim assessment:
1.1students write 2 lexico-grammatical tests (60%);
2. Exam – an integrated written and oral test (40%).
