Course annotation The aim of the course is to help students gain knowledge of teaching methodology of Latvian as a second and foreign language, language skills and their development, mainly paying attention to language mastering at school; to develop students’ understanding of teaching peculiarities of Latvian; to improve students’ knowledge about using modern technologies to teach Latvian.
Tasks of the course: 1) to learn language acquisition methods; 2) to deepen the understanding about language skills; 3) to learn the ability to choose appropriate tasks to form and develop Latvian language skills.
Results Completion of the course brings students better understanding about choosing appropriate methods to get closer to the perfection in teaching Latvian.
After successful completion of the course students will be able to show:
Academic competencies:
1) General knowledge about language teaching methodology;
2) Knowledge about language skills and appropriate tasks to develop each of them;
3) Knowledge about teaching Latvian in context of educational standards and language politics.
Professional competencies:
1) Ability to evaluate the needs of target audience and choosing appropriate teaching methods;
2) Skill to form and combine different tasks to maximize evolving language skills;
3) Ability to teach Latvian as second or foreign language in accordance with educational standards and language politics;
4) Skill to analyze language learners’ mistakes and improve language mastering process.

Requirements for obtaining credit points During the semester, 4 seminars and 2 practical works are planned.
Acquisition of credit points’ involves completion of all practical works, active and successful participation in seminars.
Course mark is formed based on the results of practical works during semester (25%), marks for completing tasks in seminars (25%) and the results of course examination (written) (50%).
