Course annotation This course continues the Arabic Language II course. Its aim is to develop students’ knowledge and skills, reaching the pre-intermediate level (according to SOAS standards). The objectives of the course are: 1) to strengthen students’ reading, listening, speaking and writing skills; 2) to teach students to discuss a number of political and social issues in Arabic; 3) to acquaint students with more complicated grammatical structures; 4) to add at least 300 words to the student’s active vocabulary.

Results
At the end of the course, the student is expected: 1) to be able to read texts of average difficulty and to retell their content in brief; 2) to recognize and be able to use correctly around 30 basic categories of Arabic grammar; 3) to be able to build compound sentences (in affirmative, negative and interrogative); 4) correctly pronounce and write the words and expressions acquired during the term; 5) to be able to distinguish between standard and colloquial Arabic.
