Course annotation The main goal of the course is to help the students acquire and develop their conversation skills in Chinese and grammar on the basis of the knowledge acquired during the preceding semester, as well as develop their reading comprehension and translation skills so that they can translate e easy Chinese texts into literary Latvian. During the course, the students analyze and translate literary Chinese texts, write grammar exercises, use dictionaries. These skills help the students read Chinese scientific literature, which is necessary for writing their theses and other undergraduate assignments.

On completion of the course, the students:
• can understand oral and written elementary texts in Chinese and can translate written texts into literary Latvian
• know the basics of Chinese language grammar, which enables them to make and translate Chinese sentences correctly

Course plan 1. NPCR Lesson no. 10 "Wo zai zher mai guangpan". Grammar: sentence with "zai" (to be, at), "hen" with adjectives L6 P2
2. Elementary Chinese Readers Lesson no. 47 "Chengyu gushi" (Chinese proverb tales). Grammar verbs with "qilai" (to start) and "xiaqu" (to go on). Sentence with "" structure L6, P2
3. Zhongguo Yuyan: "Ma hu" ("Horse and Tiger"), "Tou teng" ("Headache") L6, P2
4. NPCR Lesson no.11 "Wo hui shuo yidiano Hanyu". Grammar: modal verbs "hui", "neng", "yinggai", "keyi". Telling the time. L6, P2
5. Elementary Chinese Readers Lesson no. 48. "Biaodian fuhao" (Chinese punctuation). Grammar: sentence with "meiyou...bu" construction (if not..., then...). Telling the reason: "youyu", "yinwei...suoyi" (so). L6, P2
6. Zhongguo Yuyan: "Chi you duoshao ge yisi" ("Ideoms with the verb "chi" (to eat)"). Grammar: "cai" and "jiu" (then, straight after) differences. L6, P2
7. NPCR Lesson no. 12 "Wo quanshen duo bu shufu". Grammar: question with "haishi". Modal verbs "yao", "xiang", "yuanyi". L6, P2
8.Elementary Chinese Readers Lesson no. 51 "Xiaohua: Congming ren, Huan xiezi, Maijiu" (Chinese jokes: Smart guys, Changing boots, Buying wine). Grammar: sentence with "yuanlai", "benlai" (in fact, initially). "Hao" (good) as "hen" (very) synonym. L8, P2

Requirements for obtaining credit points
1. Regular attendance - not less than 75% of the total time.

2.1 Completion of homework.

2.2 Successful completion of tests (50% of the total grade).

3. Written and oral exam (comprises 50% of the total grade).
