Course annotation
The aim of the course is to provide students with some basic knowledge of Hindi. Students will develop reading and writing skills in devanagari. The basics of Hindi phonetics, knowledge of alphabets and grammar required for those skills will be emphasized. The course will also focus on listening, speaking, reading and writing throughout the semester. The course will also give some knowledge of India’s geographical and political maps.
At the end of the semester students will
1. recognize all alphabets of Hindi,
2. correctly pronounce Hindi vowels and consonants,
3. read and write correctly Hindi alphabets,
4. read and form simple sentences; recognize some basic categories of Hindi grammar and be able to use their word stock in simple conversations.

Requirements for obtaining credit points
Regular attendance of classes, regular submission of homework (50%), written and oral exam (25% and 25%).
