E-courses 2VAL1574: Arabic language for beginners I
Course annotation The aim of the course is to provide students with the most basic knowledge of Modern Standard Arabic.
The objectives of the course are:
1) to teach students the basics of Arab phonetics and spelling;
2) to teach them Arabic alphabet;
3) to acquaint them with some basic structures of Arabic grammar;
4) to form the vocabulary of the most indispensable Arabic words (at least 400) and expressions (on given topics);

5) to acquaint them with the most basic rules of polite communication in Arabic culture.

Results After the completion of the course, students acquire the following:
Knowledge:
1) know about 400 new words in Modern Standard Arabic [MSA];
2) recognize learned basic categories of Arabic grammar;
3) recognize polite speech and appropriate body langugage in Arabic culture.

Skills:
4) pronounce Arab vowels and consonants;
5) write correctly letters, syllables, and learned words in MSA;
6) form simple phrases and sentences in MSA, using the learned grammatical categories;
7) use the learned polite language appropriately in the given context.

Competency:
8) form simple dialogues in MSA, using the rules of polite communication (on familiar topics);

9) read, translate, and write simple texts in MSA (70-90 words, on familiar topics).

4. Consonants ح – خ – ج – هـ. Professions. Nouns: masculine and feminine. Adjective 6(L) 8 (P)
5. Emphatic consonants. Family (Part 1). Nouns: singular, dual, plural 6(L) 8 (P)
6. Consonants ع – غ – ء. Family (Part 2). Conjugation of verbs 6(L) 10 (P)
7. Home: flat, house, furniture. Numerals and counting 1-10 8 (L) 12 (P)
