E-courses PedaPD00: Foreign Language Acquisition at Primary School
Course annotation The aim of the course is to broaden students’ knowledge of teaching foreign languages to young earners. The objectives of the course:
1.to raise students’ awareness of peculiarities of yong learners and their implications of learning foreign languages;
2.to get to know various approaches that can be followed for producing a syllabus,
3.to raise students’ awareness of evaluation in YL classroom; its aim and types.

Results Having completed the course, students will have gained conscious understanding of teaching foreign languages to young learners, the age peculiarities and implications for teaching. They will be able to plan their work taking into consideration various approaches to working with young learners.
On successful completion of the course, students will have gained the following academic competences:
1.understanding of teaching foreign languages to young learners, its aims, content and expected outcomes;
2.ability to apply various approaches for planning a syllabus, e.g., storytelling, theme-based, cross-curricular.
3.theoretical knowledge of assessment in YL classroom; its types and aims.
Professional competences:
1.ability to plan their work in primary school, set appropriate aims and choose methods to achieve the aims.
2.ability to analyse foreign language lessons; apply various approaches for planning them.
3.the students will be ability to plan their work in primary classroom selecting the most appropriate form of assessment; ability to facilitate the development of YLs’ self-assessment skills

Requirements for obtaining credit points The final exam is a portfolio interview exam. The final assessment of the course consists of the work during the semester (50%) and exam (50%). Components of the exam mark - portfolio assessment (25 %)and the presentation of the portfolio (25%)
