Course annotation :

The course introduces students to the creative works by A. Blok, stressing the individuality of the poet. Moreover, the course demonstrates the reception of Blok’s creative works by the Russian, Latvian, and other foreign writers. The aim of the course is to examine the literary directions of the Silver Age and the pluralism of its aesthetic declarations.

Course annotation :

Aim of course of abnormal psychology is to provide theoretical knowledge, research and practical skills and abilities in abnormal psychology. To acquaint students with the cognitive, emotional and behaviour disorders. To provide students with an understanding of the causes of mental disorders and development and treatment of mental disorders. Teach appropriate use of their professional competence in dealing with people with mental disorders. Within the framework of the course student's analytical and critical thinking is promoted, skills for solving problems are improved.

Course tasks:

1) to promote understanding of abnormal psychology as a field of clinical psychology

2) to promote the acquired knowledge in abnormal psychology for both practical work and research work

3) to understand the feelings of people suffering from mental disorders

4) motivate students to independently complete their knowledge in abnormal psychology

This is a basic course in abstract algebra, offered by most universities. We study fundamental algebraic structures, namely semigroups, groups, rings, fields and modules, and maps between these structures. The techniques are used in many areas of mathematics, and there are applications to physics, engineering and computer science as well.

Course annotation :

The course gives an initial overview of the Agile Business Suite programming environment that includes the software environment for development and operation of computer-based information systems that model actual business systems. AB Suite System Modeler and Runtime are using Visual Studio .NET, SQL Server, .NET Framework on Windows XP. The course provides training in the following areas: AB Suite Philosophy and Concepts; Introduction to System Modeler; Modes of Operation; Development Environment and Structure; System Data Items; Item Attributes; Logic Commands and Tools.

Course annotation :

The aim of the academic practice is to strengthen and supplement the theoretical knowledge acquired during the studies, as well as to supplement theoretical knowledge. Tasks of the practice:

• get acquainted with the organization of marketing in the company and evaluate how it meets the strategic goals

• evaluate how the company conducts market research, including consumer behavior study

• get acquainted with the basic principles of pricing in a company; make calculations and analyze price dynamics

• evaluate activities of products promotion and promotional strategies and tactics.

Academic internships take place in companies with which the University of Latvia signed an internship agreement. It follows the rules about organization of students' practice in University of Latvia.

 

 

The academic practice is intended for students of Latvian group.

Course annotation :

The goal of the course is to make students interested in scientific research and publishing its results. Students can prepare a scientific article and submit it for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals and collections of scientific articles. During the course students get acquainted with the preparation of scientific articles, acquire practical skills in working with text, its scientific and literary editing, as well as with the criteria and process of reviewing articles. The paper is under the guidance of a scientific advisor.

Tasks of the course:

1) promoting students' interest in science;

2) acquisition of scientific publishing skills;

3) acquisition of scientific publishing experience.

Course annotation :

The aim of the course is to develop students’ practical abilities by means of implementing the knowledge and skills acquired during the previous theoretical and practical courses. The task of the internship is to contribute to the professional training of philology students.

 

Over the course of the internship, students develop their comprehension regarding current philology-related questions within the domain of the acquired foreign languages. Students have an opportunity to undertake their internships in government institutions, private institutions, and EU institutions (interpreter/translator), language centers (language teacher), travel agencies (guide), embassies (interpreter-secretary), publishing houses (editor), etc. By completing practical tasks related to philology, observing the work of experts in their chosen internship place, working individually, and evaluating their own work and planning its development, students develop their ability to use the acquired knowledge in lectures and practical seminars.

 

The course is in accordance with the procedure of the University of Latvia of organizing student internship. During their internship, students have the opportunity to collect the necessary data for their Bachelor Papers.

Course annotation :

The goals of the academic practice for business information management students is to strengthen theoretical knowledge about information management in the companies and organizations, to get real view on the companies' information systems and information utilization for the decision making support and also to get practical skills in the information gathering, analyses and presentation, which are necessary for management specialists. During the academic practice students must collect data necessary for bachelor theses elaboration.

During the academic practice students are obliged to make acquaintance with company's structure and characteristics, with employed information systems, their architecture, with application software for information gathering, storing, exchange, processing, analyses, presentation, with arrangement of new system and software development, obtaining and introducing, with procedures of system and software employment, maintenance and improving, with company's Web site or Internet systems goals, functions, framework, architecture, used technologies and content refreshing process.
