Course annotation The course aims to develop the academic proficiency level of students and enable them to reach level C1: to expand their academic lexicon,to develop precision and logic of expression of their thought, cohesion and readability of their texts, capability to read academic articles and follow lectures, even those that do not have a clear structure, to enable students to become active contributors to academic discourse.

Results Having successfully completed the course, the students will be able to:
1. follow academically demanding lectures, extracting the necessary information,
2.conduct academic discussions
3.initiate the topics of discussion of their own interest
4.use the scientific data bases to choose appropriate articles for their own research
5.use the articles of other authors to substantiate their own views
6.write reports and essays according to the demands of their branch of science
7.present their own research, argue their opinion and answer the questions of the audience.
Requirements for obtaining credit points To receive credit for their Level C1 in Academic English, the students have to regularly participate in the seminars, hand in the portfolio of the tested language use papers produced during the course (40%), make two academic presentations (30%) and write one examination essay, 2000 words (40%).
