Course annotation :

The main objective of the course is to explain the concepts of urban regeneration and integrated urban development and to describe the specific processes, methods and instruments related to these. The teaching methods will include lectures, seminars, debates and workshops. The module will include theoretical and practical activities and will be mostly interactive. A number of best practices in the field will be analysed, especially based on the last 2 decades of European experience and projects will be developed for selected areas of intervention from Riga, Copenhagen and other cities. By the end of the course the students will get an adequate understanding and the capabilities to develop integrated projects and urban regeneration strategies. Communication skills and team working in international and interdisciplinary surroundings will also be developed during the course practical teaching sessions. The evaluation of the module will be based on the elaboration of an integrated regeneration project for a defined urban area.

Course annotation :

 

The objective of the course– to enhance the perfection of the professional skills of schoolmasters giving lessons of Politics and Law and while mastering theory on theoretical and topical issues of Politics and Law, adapting the educational knowledge and methods in passing lessons in this subject. Within the course framework according to the educational standards, there will be lectures passed on the contents and novelties in the subject „Politics and Law“, as well as on novelties and current issues in laws and regulations of the Republic of Latvia in years 2007-2008. The attention will be particularly focused on issues covering e-democracy and e-administration, as well as on the issues covering civil society and political ethics, and morality in politics. Field training classes, guided to application of theoretical knowledge in practice, will be offered. Grounding upon the themes acquired during courses, clases on possibilities of educational methods application at the school learning process will be offered, as well as skills of evaluation and formation of tasks will be acquired.

The goal of course “Visual Identity of Riga is to familiarize students with the theoretical aspects, criteria for analysis and principles for designing visual identity, based on the example of the Latvian capital Riga, its reflection in various print, virtual and audiovisual products. During the course students will analyze the visualization of Riga in Latvian and foreign media in the context of journalism, advertising and public relations during different historic periods and today. During the course students will work on individual audiovisual projects, thus providing their own contribution to the development of Riga visual identity that can be later used for branding the city.

The aim of this course is to establish a knowledge base and skills about vision correction with contact lenses.

Main tasks: to give knowledge about classification of refractive errors, and their diagnostic options; to gain skills and abilities in correcting refractive errors and prescribing appropriate contact lenses; to be familiarized with types of contact lenses, their adjusting and the effect on eye physiology; to acquire contact lens fitting methods, evaluate changes in frontal eye structures, and acquire contact lens fitting techniques and replacement strategies; to gain skills in contact lens fitting according to patient’s eye health condition and needs; to be able to give instructions to a patient about contact lens care and storage conditions.
