Annotation of doctoral school activity:

Doctoral school „Lettonica and intercultural studies” intend to provide new opportunities for scientific cooperation between doctoral students and increase scientific and pedagogical qualification. The result is a new interdisciplinary scientific and cooperational virtual institution where PhD students participate from philology, philosophy, linguistics, history, pedagogy, theology and law science studies.

To make LETTONICA competitive and attractive to other scientific branches specialists from  Lettonica are involved, as well as the most visible sub-field specialists from research institutes and universities in Latvia and abroad.

In doctoral school along with the possibility to listen lecturers from various disciplines of humanities regularly are managed scientific seminars where PhD students present parts of their doctoral  thesis.  In addition there are opportunity to participate in interdisciplinary field research in Latvia and abroad.

  • Regional and global in context of Lettonica: intercultural communication;
  • Latvian historical sources and development of Lettonica: a possibility of new paradigm;
  • Historical and mythological thinking, linear and cyclic discourse;
  • Virtual reality as a research subject of folklore, mythology, philosophy, art science, computer science and linguistics;
  • Effects of virtual communication and side-effects of context of modern Latvian culture;
  • The extended  opportunity and coverage field of Lettonica: history, folklore, philology, art, music, philosophy, computer science;
  • Self-reflection and self-reference in Latvian and Baltic cultural history - the discourse of literature;
  • Digitalization of computer linguistics and cultural heritage;
  • Infrastructure of language resources and tools;

  • Oral history - the research subject of history or folklore / mythology;
  • World of objects in  modern society: habitus and non-verbal communication aspect of the analysis;
  • Latvian language, folklore, literature (including oral texts), art and music as a  semiotic object  of linguistics, computer science, philosophy, literary studies, folklore and art history research complex;
  • Letonika and Baltonika - Slavistika - Germanic studies - Asian Studies / Orientalism. Comparative aspect;
  • The analysis of  term development in Latvian language environment: computer science, philosophy, history;
  • Issues about Lettonica in the context of social and cultural anthropology;
  • Asymmetry of public communication: politics, intellectuals and cultural context in Latvia;
  • Self-image and self-reference  in Latvian art;
  • Indirect involvement of cultural texts in public discourse mentality.

Criteria for admission in doctoral school „Lettonica and intercultural research”: 

  • Current research activities - participation in conferences, publications, participation in projects (School Management Board will evaluate candidates after CV information);
  • Master's / doctoral thesis correspondence to school’s research directions (School Management Board will evaluate the presentation of topic  (the 2nd and 3rd attachment).

For participation are invited to apply students from master’s, doctoral studies and degree candidates.
