The curriculum of the bachelor study programme "Optometry" is based on the content of the European Diploma in Optometry and in line with the basic knowledge and skills requirements of the optometric profession standard in Latvia. Bachelor programme is the first step in professional optometrist education scheme in Latvia. The programme offers extensive profile studies of natural sciences including organic chemistry, biology, calculus, physics, medical courses including human anatomy and physiology, pathology, microbiology, biochemistry, anatomy and physiology of the eye, physiology of vision, specific courses in optometry – optics, geometrical optics, ophthalmic optics, optometric instruments, refractive defects, binocular vision and other. After graduation students can continue studies on master level.

Admission requirements

  1. General secondary high school diploma;
  2. English language proficiency.
  3. Grade in Mathematics or Physics or Chemistry or Biology must be no less than 6 in a 10 point grading system
  4. If the secondary education document does not indicate a grade in mathematics or physics, or chemistry or biology, it can be replaced by the grade of the mathematics or physics test organized by the Faculty of Physics, Mathematics and Optometry of the University of Latvia. 


As a part of the admission process applicants will be asked to participate in an online interview.
