The department ensures the academic operation of the UL in accordance with the University of Latvia Development Strategy.

The department develops new programmes, conducts the analysis of existing ones, elaborates proposals for promoting the efficiency of studies, as well as supports the licensing of study programmes and continuing education programmes, as well as the accreditation procedures.

The department carries out calculations and analysis related to the study process, including the development and supervision of regulations governing the planning and accounting for the work time of academic staff, settlements among faculties and between higher education institutions, forecasts the number of students and income, etc.

The department ensures study quality maintenance and monitoring, implements student support activities, builds the concept of e-learning development.

The department coordinates, analyses and supervises the doctoral study and doctorate degree award process, as well as evolvement, operation and monitoring of the doctoral schools, the lifelong learning opportunities offered by the UL, and other study related project concepts.

The department drafts and improves the normative basis related to the study process, controls its implementation, monitors the LUIS subsystems within its competence (registers and catalogues of study and continuing education programmes, register of study courses, academic staff workloads, surveys, etc.).
