The first BOOSTED national coaching event in the framework of the Conference "Current Trends in Tourism Development, Education and Research in the Baltic Sea Region"

On February 2, 2018, University of Latvia organised the BOOSTED national coaching event and seminar in the framework of the Conference "Current Trends in Tourism Development, Education and Research in the Baltic Sea Region" in Riga. The event took place during the International Travel Trade Fair “Balttour 2018” in Kipsala. Over 60 participants – leading tourism experts and researches from various universities and other educational institutions, professional organisations as well as representatives of tourism businesses – attended the coaching event and seminar with the great interest. 

During the event different issues related to the BOOSTED project as well as actualities in tourism sector in Latvia and project regions were discussed.

At the beginning, participants were introduced with the project aims, its activities and the results of project research study on the necessary skills and competencies for tourism sector professionals. The research study conducted in Latvia indicates a number of personal and professional characteristics that needs to be included in the tourism education programmes and are important for persons working in the sector: personal traits and attitude; business management; product development; customer service; internationalization & cross-cultural competence; sales skills and marketing communication; networking and sectoral cooperation; destination management strategy; digitalization as well as foreign languages.

Representatives of the project presented also the new curriculum of eight different study courses that were elaborated on the basis of the above-mentioned research study. The study courses will be implemented online and will be offered free of charge to students (universities), professionals and other interested persons related to the tourism sector. These courses will start in the autumn semester 2018 and in the spring semester 2019. The language of instruction is English.
