This program is a 3-week joint course on current economic challenges and business opportunities facing the Baltic societies and business enterprises in this region. Three leading Baltic Universities - University of Latvia, University of Tartu and Vilnius University - offer a business oriented program with strong practical emphasis on company visits in Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius.
The aim of the program is to familiarize the students with current challenges and opportunities facing the Baltic/Eastern European economies through company visits and discussion meetings with upper-level managers of local and international businesses. Cultural events of the program will include city tours, visits to renowned museums and landmarks as well as attendance of cultural events. (The detailed description of the program will be available in February 2013.)
The program will be held from 1st July until 20th July 2013. The participants will spend the first week in Estonia (Tallinn), the second week in Latvia (Riga) and the third week in Lithuania (Vilnius). Six company visits will be organized in each country, whereas the companies are chosen from the following sectors: financial, IT, marketing and tourism, marine trade and transportation, construction.
Week I: Estonia
Location: Tallinn, 01-07 July 2013
University of Tartu (est.1632) - The University of Tartu was founded in 1632 by the King of Sweden and was intended to pursue research and advance learning in a variety of disciplines. It has continued to adhere to this approach throughout the centuries, and remains today the only classical university of Estonia and a leading center of research. As a national university it has a task to keep Estonia's national culture. The University of Tartu includes 9 faculties, 17 000 students and the academic staff of 1700. The main historical campus of the University is located in the city of Tartu in Southern Estonia. The University also has the major role in the regional co-operation in the country and has developed several new campuses in Estonia, including one in the city center of vibrant Tallinn, the capital of Estonia.
Week II: Latvia
Location: Riga, 07-14 July 2013
University of Latvia (est.1919) - The University of Latvia, located in the Latvian capital Riga, has preserved its main goal - to be the center of the Latvian intellectual life by formulating new tasks and goals. Over the ninety years of its existence, the University of Latvia has evolved into a leading educational institution with the student body of 22 000 and academic staff of 1400. The development of the University of Latvia is based on rich and extensive historical heritage as well as experience and is an ongoing process through the international collaboration and modernization. Today's campus is located in the very heart of the Riga city center.
Week III: Lithuania
Location: Vilnius, 14-20 July 2013
Vilnius University (est.1579) - Vilnius University has been an important part of Vilnius for 432 years, which makes it one of the oldest and most famous higher educational institutions in the region. Its influence reaches into every aspect of the city's life. With its 14 faculties, 22 000 students and academic staff of 1830 it is the largest university in Lithuania and a keeper of cultural and scientific traditions. The University campus is located in the very heart of the Old Town and consists of 12 buildings that are arranged around 13 courtyards. Today's Vilnius is an important industrial and cultural center of Lithuania.

This program awards 6 ECTS credits.
The fee for the whole program is 1790 EUR. This includes tuition, accommodation with breakfast, transfer between three countries, transportation during the program, cost of the cultural and social program and services of the host universities.
PLEASE NOTE: students will receive three transcripts of records, one issued by the University of Latvia, one by the University of Tartu and one by Vilnius University.

- Cultural visits: Haut- Koenigsbourg castle, Sipp winery, guided tour of Strasbourg, etc. Students will discover the beautiful region of Alsace in the East of France.

Summer Programme 2013.
It is opportunity to participate in one international courses taught entirely in English and focusing on the areas of Entrepreneurship, Logistics and Family Business. Students will be able to obtain credits for the course as well as participate in social and cultural activities to discover and learn about Sweden and the Swedish culture. Strudents will benefit from a term abroad during their summer break with the possibility to gain valuable international experience.
JIBS is a leading business school in Scandinavia with a special focus on entrepreneurship, business renewal and internationalisation. Main research areas are business administration, economics, commercial law and informatics. The summer programme is taught in conjuction with the Center for Innovation Systems Entrepreneurship and Growth (CISEG), The Center of Logistics and Supply Chain Management (CeLS), The Centre for Evolving IT in Networked Organisations, The Institute of Foreign Law an the Center for Family Enterprise and Ownership (CeFEO).

“Diverse Arctic: Local Challenges – Global Changes” starting from February 2013.
The programme includes following courses:
1. Crossing the Borders: Changes and Challenges of the Russian Politics in the Arctic (1990s-2000s), 10 ECTS.
2. Society, Diversity and Human Development in the High North, 10 ECTS.
3. The Arctic as an Art object, 10 ECTS.
Students will attend lectures and seminars, make presentations and group or individual (research) projects, take part in workshops, screening sessions and excursions.

The Hostel Facilities
The University has a well-developed infrastructure – student’s hostels, sports complexes, stadium, swimming pool, ski lodge, Medical Centre, Student’s Centre, libraries and Internet resources.
The hostel facilities: a standard room (for 1 person) and a large room (for 2 persons), shared kitchen (for 5-10 persons) and bathroom (for 2 persons). Room and kitchen are furnished. Wi-Fi is available.

Call for Applications: Erasmus Intensive programme Translocal methodologies in gender studies
at the University of Eastern Finland 3.–14. June 2013
The aim of the PhD intensive course “Translocal methodologies in gender studies” is to strengthen the methodological understanding of the doctoral students in interdisciplinary gender studies. The key issues which are focused on during the intensive programme are: finding empirical solutions for the participants’ own research and developing translocal, intersectional, and participant and activist methodologies.
The ten day intensive programme will be held at the University of Eastern Finland 3.–14. June 2013 (Joensuu Campus, first week, and Mekrijärvi research station, second week).
Eligible students and method of application: Students qualified for the intensive programme are PhD and advanced MA students who have the right to study at the following Erasmus partner universities: University of Eastern Finland, University of Latvia, University of Tampere, University of Trieste, University of Udine, University of Vilnius and University of Zagreb. The students may have their background in the diverse fields of humanities and the arts, social sciences and cultural studies. The students who are currently working with their PhD or MA theses on the issues of gender, sexuality, and intersectionality, are preferred. The selection of the students will be done by the IP programme teacher group based on both progress in studies and according to the relevance of the intensive programme focus on the student’s research.
In order to apply for the intensive programme, write a short abstract of your ongoing research and your research setting (research questions, data, the methodological framework), including the phase of your thesis (e.g. in the planning /data gathering going on/analysis almost completed/planning post doc research). Add also your name, email, phone number, address, the site of study (university, department) and the major field of study.
Send your applications by e-mail to the programme secretary (maiju.parviainen[at]uef.fi). The deadline for the applications is Monday, 7th January, 2013. The accepted students will be contacted personally via email by the end of January 2013.
The course is free of charge. Travel arrangements will be made by the organizers and travel costs will be reimbursed to 75 per cent (25 % excess). Accommodation, breakfast and lunch/dinner will be organized centrally.

18th International Summer School

The aim of the summer school is to help participants learn about democratic developments, human rights, sustainable development, green economy and European integration.
