The Student theatre
The Student theatre of the University of Latvia first appeared in 1946. The creator and manager of the theatre was the director Elvīra Elksne. Since 1993 the Student theatre of the University of Latvia is led by Visvaldis Klintsons, director Maija Veide, which staged the contemporary drama by Margarita Perveņecka “Civil chain” , this performance gained recognition as the best stage debut in the festival “Riga plays theatre 2005”.
The plays are performed both on stages in Riga, Latvia and in international festivals of amateur theatres. The repertoire includes "Mlle Jūlija" by A. Strinbergs – the play has obtained recognition both in Latvia and abroad, "Big, brightly red buss " by L. Stumbre – has been awarded as the best play in festival " Riga plays theatre 2004", as well as Students’ theatre festival by Riga Technical University. "Last summer in Chulimsk" by A. Vampilov, „Basement” by Z.Zīle and „Blood wedding” by F.Garsia Lorka, that has won the traveling prize „Big Tom” “Riga plays theatre 2008”.
