On 7th of February 2013, a cooperation agreement between the pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline Latvia (GSK) and the University of Latvia (UL) was signed, the aim of which is to facilitate education of highly qualified specialists.

A group of geographers from the University of Latvia (UL) in cooperation with Latvian social networking site draugiem.lv has developed an innovative research tool, which in 2010 and 2012 allowed them to implement a web-based survey of Latvian residents living abroad. The goal of research was to evaluate the main mobility trends by making use of the social networking site draugiem.lv.

At the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM-ICPC), held on October 23-25 in Minsk, Belarus, two UL teams demonstrated steady results to be selected for the regional contest in St.Peterburg. With the start of the new study year, the University of Latvia's application for mobile devices is created for the convenience of UL students. The application is available for free download to anyone interested, but the current version is targeted at active UL students. They can use the new application to access study data, to view the lecture time-table and the contact section, etc.
