The Library of the University of Latvia structures its collection according to the streamlines and requirements of the study programs and the branches of scientific research work carried out in the University of Latvia. The aim of the library is to provide bachelor, master and doctoral studies with the necessary information.
 
In the collection of the library readers can find both materials printed in Latvia and abroad. Printed materials are supplemented with the electronic information resources.
 
All the documents in the collection of the library can be found in catalogues.
 
The collection of the library is divided into several parts according to the science fields that it covers and is located in the branch libraries.
 
Rare editions, manuscripts, and other documents that have heritage or scientific value are gathered in the department of Rare Editions and Manuscripts.
 
Scientific literature as well as the periodicals of the previous year are placed in the stockroom. Books and periodicals can be ordered and received in the lending/circulation. The latest scientific literature and periodicals are available in the reading room. Reference literature, factographical, thematic and other bibliographic references about different kinds of questions are available in the reading room.
 
Visitors of the library also can use the collection of fiction and find books for their leisure time and entertainment.
 
Branch libraries form their collections with the literature from the corresponding science sphere.
 
Materials that cannot be found in the collection of the Library of the University of Latvia can be ordered from other libraries using the services of the International Interlibrary Loan.
