Short Program description
The aim of the Doctoral Study Programme “Law Science” (hereafter also the Study Programme) is to prepare high-qualified researchers and academic staff in different subfields of law by obtaining an international doctor of science degree in law and mastering the principles of organisation, implementation and management of study and research work. Study Programme has the following aims:
- Implement the highest level doctoral studies in law in compliance with national science, economic, cultural and social needs;
- Provide the doctoral students with a possibility to acquire in-depth theoretical knowledge and research competences in law in general and in selected subfield, thus offering a possibility to qualitatively develop and successfully defend their promotional theses;
- Prepare qualified law researchers and specialists for study and research work that have become acquainted with the latest achievements in science and practice of law, and pedagogy of higher educational establishment by awarding them a doctor of science degree compliant with international standards and providing them with appropriate competences. The Study Programme includes both general study courses mandatory for all doctoral students – Law Integration in Europe, Interactive Teaching Methods in Higher Educational Establishments, foreign studies, and five optional (specialization) courses that allow doctoral students to acquire in-depth knowledge of the subfields of law like Theory and History of Law (Head Prof. S. Osipova) and Constitutional Law (Head Prof. R. Balodis), give an overview of the content, development trends, and major theoretical and practical problematic issues of Civil Law (Head Prof. J. Rozenfelds, Criminal Law (Head Prof. V. Liholaja), International and European Law (Head Prof. J. Bojārs), Forensics and Theory of Operational Activities (Head Prof. V. Liholaja).
