This Joint European Master programme offers unique opportunity to study international migration in three European countries. The programme seeks to explore the critical elements of international migration and the incorporation of immigrants in the society of destination. Its aim is to educate students in advanced theories, techniques, and methodologies in the field of Migration Studies, so they will be able to translate perceived societal problems into relevant social scientific research questions and contribute to the solution of such problems by combining insights from fundamental social theory joined with substantive theories.

The Erasmus Mundus Joint European Master in International Migration and Social Cohesion is offered by the University of Amsterdam's Graduate School of Social Sciences, in collaboration with European partners University of Deusto in Bilbao (Spain), University College Dublin (Ireland) the University of Latvia in Riga, (Latvia) and the University of Osnabruck (Germany) and Third-Country partners Moldova State University in Chisinau (Moldova), York University (Canada) or University Antonio Ruiz de Montoya in Lima (Peru).

Students will study in three European universities.
The programme also offers Erasmus Mundus Student and Scholar Scholarships.

Graduates have the possibility to continue the academic education in Latvia or abroad.

Career opportunities

Graduates can apply for work in international research companies, scientific institutes, NGOs, and governmental institutions with an emphasis on migration issues.

Admission requirements
1. Students with academic bachelor´s degree (or equivalent) in social sciences discipline closely related to the programme (sociology, social/cultural anthropology, political science, and (human) geography) are invited to apply, provided that they meet entry requirements.
2. Students with degrees in the other social sciences International Relations and International Development and/or students who have at least 60 EC in Social Sciences Methodology and Theory may also apply.
3. Applicants who are nationals of countries other than the United States, Australia, United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland or New Zealand or have not obtained a Bachelor or Master's degree in the United States, Australia, United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland or New Zealand are required to submit an English test score that meets specific requirements.
