This is a two year programme providing an excellent opportunity to obtain an interdisciplinary Master`s degree in Baltic Sea region issues. The programme offers education in humanities and several social and environmental disciplines, focusing on the Baltic Sea region countries. This is a joint-degree programme set up in cooperation with four partner universities: the University of Turku in Finland, the University of Tartu in Estonia, the University of Latvia and Vytautas Magnus University in Lithuania. The programmes are compatible, and this partnership enables student mobility within the programme.
As a result of passing the program, the master students obtain qualifications to continue their academic research in doctoral studies.
Programme courses
Master’s degree programme „Baltic Sea Region Studies” curriculum
The following courses are offered: General courses, Baltic States and Europe, Policy and human rights, Society and environment, Art and literature studies, Cultural history and education. Besides, students are entitled to choose one of languages (Latvian, Swedish, Finnish, Estonian, or Lithuanian).
Study period and classes time
The full – time degree programme covers two academic years. Classes are in the evenings of working days from 6.15pm till 9.30pm.
Career opportunities
Graduates of the programme of the Baltic Region Studies will have a possibility to work in various state, non-governmental and private institutions such as government institutions, diplomatic structures, representative offices at the international organizations, e. g. the United Nations, UNESCO, NATO, European Council, etc., economy units, international organizations which have interests in the Baltic region e. g. institutions of higher education and scientific research.
Admission requirements
1. Bachelor’s degree or certified documents proving equivalent education at an institution of higher education;
2. If English is not your native language and/or your previous education is not obtained in English, you must present results of one of the internationally recognized language tests or a satisfactory grade in English in the Bachelor’s degree diploma supplement to prove the language proficiency.
Enrollment criteria (for students competing for the state-financed study place)
1. The grade obtained in final Bachelor’s exam or the average grade obtained in final exams (40%);
2. The grade point average of undergraduate studies (60%).
Please note! Only EU/EEA/Swiss citizens and EU long-term resident status holders can compete for a state-financed study place.
