Tuition fee:    

1) For EU, EEA citizens and their family members is 1400 LVL per year (the total tuition fee is 5600 LVL);

2) For other countries citizens is 2500 LVL per year (the total tuition fee is 10000 LVL);


Programme description

The programme combines language studies with business studies and aims at preparing students for international careers at enterprises and institutions. Students will understand an entrepreneurship milieu on both a national and a global scale and will be able to apply the acquired language, culture and management knowledge in workplaces.

The language module comprises Business English, Financial English, Legal English, second foreign language studies (French, Spanish, German) and a third language of students’ choice.

The business module includes but is not limited to such courses as International Economic Relations, Marketing, Globalization and Integration Processes in International Economics, Intercultural Business Relations.

The programme comprises courses which develop students’ translation, intercultural communication, teamworking and other skills required for employability. 


Possibilities after graduation

Advanced competence in two foreign languages and a working knowledge of a third foreign language along with a thorough grounding in business proves attractive to domestic and international employers. Graduates will be able to work as senior specialists, project managers and assistants to directors or to heads of units.  They will be able to continue their education in Master’s degree programmes in Humanities, Master of Business Administration programmes and second level professional programmes.

criteria:

The selection criteria are based on the following grades recorded in the general secondary education diploma supplement (grade achievement):

The grade in English/German or French¹ (at least satisfactory) + The average grade in Mathematics + GPA (grade point average) + certificate of Latvian language (if available)² 

¹ The grade in secondary education diploma in:

  • English can be replaced with one of the following documents:

    1) TOEFL IBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet Based Test) score at least 80 or TOEFL PBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language Paper Based Test) score at least 550;

    2) IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score at least 6 points;

    3) Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English – C level; Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English – B level;

  • French can be replaced with one of the following documents:

    1) DELF (Diplôme d'études en langue française) B2 level;

    2) DALF (Diplôme approfondi de langue française) at least C1 level;

    3) TCF (Test de connaissance du français) score at least 400 points;

    4) TEF (Test d’Evaluation du Français) score at least 541 points;

  • German can be replaced with one of the following documents:

    1) DSD (Deutsche Sprachdiplom der Kultusministerkonferenz) at least level 2;

    2) DSH (Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang) at least level 2;

    3) TestDaF (Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache) at least level 4 in all test sections;

    4) KDS (Kleines Deutsches Sprachdiplom);

    5) GDS (Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom);

    6) ZOP (Zentrale Oberstufenprüfung); 

²EU citizens can register for the competition for a state financed study place if one of the following documents is provided:

  • a certificate of state language issued by The Centre for Curriculum Development and Examinations of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Latvia, stating at least level 1B (issued as of 01.09.2000 – 31.08.2009);
  • a certificate of state language issued by The State Education Centre of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Latvia at least level A2 (issued as of 01.09.2009);
  • a Latvian language certificate issued by the Language Centre of the University of Latvia. The lowest acceptable grade is 4 (almost satisfactory).

Please note! As the language of instruction is English, English language proficiency must be provided in any case. 


Necessary documents:

  1. Notarially certified copies of legalized diploma of secondary education and legalized grade transcript. If these documents are not in Latvian or English a notarially certified translation of these documents shall be provided.

  2. Document of English/German or French language proficiency (if necessary);
  3. Completed application form;
  4. Copy of passport;
  5. 1 photo;
  6. Copy of application fee payment document.
    The payment must be transferred to the bank account of the University of Latvia before applying for studies. The application fee is non-refundable.  

Please note! Application documents without all required attachments and application fee payment confirmation will be understood as not valid and will not be forwarded for further processing.  


Application fee:

1. For European Union, European Economic Area citizens and their family members* is 20LVL (28Euro);  
2. For permanent residents (including long-term residents of the European Community) and their family members* is 20LVL (28Euro);  
3. For other citizens is 35LVL (50Euro).

* Under this clause family members are spouse, parents and children.

 
The deadlines for submitting application documents: 

1. For EU citizens and permanent residents is July 23, 2010;

2. For citizens from other countries is May 15, 2010.  
 

Legalization (certification of document authenticity)

  • Legalization is not a notarial act. It means verification of signature and seal of a document.
  • If education documents are issued in a country which has joined the Hague Convention 1961 (e.g. USA, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Georgia, India, Moldova etc.) they should be certified with an Apostille. The Apostille is issued by a competent institution (usually the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) in the country of origin.
  • If education documents are issued in a country that has not joined the Hague Convention 1961 (e.g. Lebanon, Syria, Pakistan, Sri-Lanka etc.) applicants should get a double legalization of their educational documents. The documents need to be legalized either by a competent institution (usually the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) in the country of origin or by the diplomatic/consular mission of the country of origin and either by any Latvian diplomatic/consular mission or by Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Consular Department.
