The goals of the Finance and Accounting Department are financial management policy, implementation of the strategy and tactics, as well as operational planning under the Republic of Latvia regulatory laws on financial management and other laws and regulations. The Department provides UL administration and other finance statement users with financial information. It keeps UL financial records by the types of funds, projects, scientific grants and contract works. For doing the tasks the Department collaborates with other UL departments, Ministry of Education and Science and other government institutions, the Treasury, State Revenue Service, Central Statistical Bureau and other organizations.

Finance and Accounting Department consists of Financial Plan Section and Accounting Section.

The main functions of the Financial Plan Section are development and coordination of the budget, financing plans and estimates, application of funds control, as well as reporting on the University of Latvia about application of the funds and financial position, budget performance and other financial analyses.

The Accounting Section registers all UL transactions, which are supported by source documents, ensures the commitment and action records, prepares financial, statistical reports, as well as tax and other reports, provides control of the material and financial resources and the preservation of property of the UL. The Accounting Section deals with all UL financial operations, payments of salaries and scholarships, levees charges about studies, rent and other UL paid services.
