The Faculty of Theology of the University of Latvia was originally established on 4 February 1920 and re-established after the Soviet times in 1990. Presently it is the only academic educational institution in Latvia that offers Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral degrees in major areas of theology and religious studies in internationally accredited study programmes. Although the faculty cooperates with many denominations, it is an independent institution.
The Faculty of Theology of the University of Latvia takes pride in its long history and contemporary scientifically critical approach to the issues of theology and religious studies. During its entire existence, the Faculty has been gathering students who prefer a wide and comprehensive humanitarian education, comprising studies in the classical disciplines of theology, the Hebrew and Greek (koine) languages, as well as subjects related to world religions, history, philosophy, psychology, ethics and others. All study programmes have been developed in accordance with the academic standards of Western European universities in the fields of theology and religious studies. The Faculty also offers a wide range of opportunities for studying abroad (for example, at the universities of Heidelberg, Munich, Tuebingen, Leuven etc.).
As a student of the faculty, you will have at your disposal the most extensive library of theological literature in Baltic States.
