Feministica Lettica is a centre for interdiscplinary studies, specialising in studies in gender sociality, i.e. in feminist literature and culture. Its main purpose is to assess, study and provide interpretation of Latvian language and literature within the perspective of contemporary theories on feminist literature and culture, focusing on gender identity aspects in ethnic cultural identity and promoting the formation in Latvia of a tolerant society educated on issues of gender culture.
The Centre organises interdisciplinary research conferences and workshops and participates in the development, co-ordination and implementation research projects in Latvia and at the international level ("Refounding Europe: Creating Links, Insights, Overvievs" (CLIOH), "Woman and Science", "Latvian Literature and Contemporary Literary and Philosophical Concepts: A Discourse on Feminism").
Since 1999, the Centre is publishing an interdisciplinary research almanac Feministica Lettica and is offering special courses within study programmes in Baltic philology and other humanitarian discliplines funded under international research projects. The Centre is funded under the grant system of the Latvian Science Council.
