Main direction of the research work of the Chair:

• social-economic development problems and policy, tendencies of birth rate, mortality rate and migration,  elaboration of demographic forecasts. In the research work chair co-operates with Centre of Demography www.popin.lanet.lv;

• employments, education and other social problems;

• economic demography, statistics. Labour potential evaluation and analysis. Viability and evaluation of its determinant social and economic factors. Generation change of Latvia’s economically active population and its analysis;

• estimates of population and population structure changes;

• Problems and analysis of aging of population. Forecasts about population and population structure;

• standard of living of Latvia’s population ;

• development problems of Baltic Sea region countries: demographic and human-resource development, higher education and improvement of statistic registration;

• research on  standards of living of Latvia’s population; aspects of quality of life and their statistic investigation;

• social processes in the society.
