Scientific work in the Chair is performed in the following directions:

• Physiological aspects of crop yield, quality and rational management model;
• Induction of plant resistance by means of metabolites of microorganisms and study of physiological mechanisms;
• Control of plant antistress and adaptation responses;
• Plant – herbivorous arthropod interaction;
• Hormonal control in plant tissue culture;
• Anatomical and physiological studies of plant propagation (in cooperation with UL UL Botanical Garden and UL Rhododendron nursery “Babīte”)
• Biology of rare and protected plant species of Latvia (in cooperation with UL Institute of biology un UL Botanical garden);
• Study of physiological aspects of genetic resources of wild and cultivated plants (in cooperation with Plant molecular genetics group).
