Chair of Molecular Biology takes part in realizing five study programs and offers for students more than twenty study courses. Two professors, one associated professor and three half time professor assistants (docents) are permanent staff of the Chair. Research work is connected with the molecular biology of eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells. Medical and plant genetics has been studied also.

Chair has tight collaboration with the Medical Faculty of LU, Riga Stradins University, Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Centre, Institute of Biology LU, Latvia Agriculture University  and number of universities and institutions abroad – in neighbouring  countries  Lithuania, Estonia, as well Uppsala, Stockholm University, Institute of Scharite Clinic of Berlin Humboldt University, Nordic Genetic Resource Canter, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Max-Planck-Institute for Molecular Genetics in Berlin and elsewhere.
