Words from graduates
(Former Chief Financial Officer, Birdstep Technology ASA)
"I enjoyed my studies in this program. There was a friendly environment, including good relations between teachers and students and well as an organised program. Sufficient guest lectures by international professors and experts gave us another chance to learn more about the EU and its development from different points of view. The program included a study visit to Brussels which provides a wonderful opportunity to learn how the European Institutions actually function and to discover European political culture from the inside. Overall, I can say it was a worthwhile experience and I'm satisfied with my choice."
(Former student, the European Parliament)
“In my opinion, the European Studies Master’s Programme at the University of Latvia is a tailor-made programme for those who plan to work in the “administrative heart” of the European Union. A profound theoretical background in the European affairs gained during the lectures and participation in the International Study Week in Brussels were the starting points to pursue my career in Europe. A balanced combination of an academic and practical approach throughout two years of studies taught me not only to acquire but also to apply the acquired knowledge, which is essential for young professionals.”
“ ….this is a programme I suggest to apply for all who are looking for comprehensive education abroad and studies in a multi-cultural group.
I’m from Azerbaijan, married and have two children. One may well imagine how difficult it is to be very far away from your family. But I knew, I want welfare and prosperity to my family, and successful career for myself, so I have to invest in my education.
Studying in European Studies masters programme at the University of Latvia, I learned a lot about EU political, economic and law disciplines. Moreover, I understand better how the European institutions work. Study visit to Brussels and Luxemburg was both very important and enjoyable.
I think it’s a unique programme that includes a wide spectrum of education in it and attracts students not only from Europe but also from other parts of the world.”

"Having graduated with honour in Georgia from Akaki Tsereteli State University of Social Science Faculty with specialization in Law, I immediately decided to continue my master studies abroad at the University of Latvia in the European Studies programme. To see and study Europe from the perspective of a New EU Member country was very interesting for me. My impressions exceeded my expectations. International atmosphere, highly qualified lectures and EU practitioners and nice environment help me to develop knowledge in different spheres. In addition, history and cultural life of Riga is really fascinating and valuable for me.
I would advise to study European Studies at the University of Latvia in Riga and you will enjoy your studies in the programme as much as I did."
(Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Latvia)
“If someone asks me, whether it has been worth it to study European Studies at the University of Latvia, my answer will be: yes. My work was and still is connected with European issues: therefore I decided to apply for this programme. European Studies provided me with a good understanding of European integration issues, how the European institutions work. I have improved my knowledge in economics, political science and European law. We had a great opportunity to participate in the practical research week in Brussels, where we visited various EU and international institutions together with other students from the University of Bremen. It was very good and positive experience, which helped me in my career.”
(INTERREG IVC Joint Technical Secretariat)
“I am thankful to the European Studies Master's Programme for developing my interdisciplinary analytical skills that I now use daily in my profession. During the studies we had an opportunity to listen to several courses read by experienced foreign professors. I highly appreciated this way of gaining experience from other countries. The studies sustained the connection with the university, and I currently continue my Ph.D. studies in management and participate to research projects – all of this is built on the basis that was given in the European Studies Master’s Programme.”
