Call and registration for Young Researchers and Students

The University of Latvia is continuing series of conferences on sustainable development started on 2003 and is announcing 2nd Event supported by the European Commission: "Integrative Approaches Towards Sustainability". The conference wishes to encourage participants with both practical and theoretical research activities and is a forum for debate and discussion. The strategic objectives of the Global Change and Ecosystems Sub-Priority and the Conference are:

Organising Committee of the Conference is going to support 60 young researchers in order to help them to participate in the Conference. Organising Committee reserves right to increase the number of grants according to budget availability. For this purpose, Organising Committee is starting the procedures for the selection of possible candidates for the participation in the International Conference, to be organised on 11th - 14th May 2005 in Spa site of Riga - Jūrmala, Latvia.

To participate in the Conference the young researchers should submit 250-word abstracts of the Conference posters. Selection will be made by the International Project board on the basis of the scientific profile of candidates and of their respective home institutions, and according to principles of equal opportunities among candidates. Deadline for applications has been extended to 31 March 2005. Authors of the accepted abstracts will be notified after 15 April 2005. Participants are requested either to submit the abstract electronically (*.rtf format) to the Conference Secretariat (dinab@latnet.lv) or by regular mail (Ms. Dina Berzina, Institute of Atomic Physics and Spectroscopy, University of Latvia, Raina blvd.19, Riga, LV-1586, Latvia). According to the 6FP Programme, a researcher is a person who undertakes research activities either on a professional basis or in the context of a PhD/Master/Diploma course.

The selected candidates will be reimbursed economy travel costs: bus, train, ferry. Accommodation, and conference admission fee for the three day Conference in Riga-Jūrmala in May 2005 will be directly covered by the funds made available for this purpose by the EC.
